Instrument and Controls Designer

Reporting To: I&C Design Supervisor

Job Description:  The Instrument and Controls Designer will work on projects in the energy and process chemical industries.

The position will work with the Instrument and Control Engineering group and other engineering and design disciplines to develop design drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.  The successful candidate will work with and mentor Junior Instrument and Controls Designers.

The primary role will be to develop and create Instrument and Controls project deliverable drawings.

Job Responsibilities

The Instrument and Control Designer will be responsible for creating design drawings for multiple projects including, but not limited to:

  • Control system network architecture drawings
  • Instrument location and conduit routing drawings
  • Instrument junction box, control panel and emergency shutdown panel layout drawings and Bill of Materials.
  • Instrument junction box, control panel and emergency shutdown panel wiring drawings
  • I/O wiring drawings and instrument loop drawings
  • Instrument cable schedules
  • Instrument installation details
  • Interconnect wiring drawings/schematics

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years relevant instrument and controls design experience
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • Familiarity with codes and standards related to the I&C discipline
  • Experience in AutoCAD 2D
  • Experience in AutoCAD 3D and/or AutoCAD electrical is preferred
  • Effective time management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage schedules and budgets for multiple simultaneous projects
  • Ability to work in teams with other I&C and electrical department members; and with other design groups
  • Must be willing to mentor younger designers
