Project Overview

ZAP was engaged by a cement and building materials producer to perform 3D laser scanning of an operating bulk material distribution terminal in California. ZAP’s scope included establishing survey control, field capture of the facility, and registration of the scan data into a single referenced point cloud.

Survey Control & Field Capture

Permanent survey monuments were installed as required so that each scan position could be tied to a common coordinate reference, allowing subsequent scans and downstream design work to build on the same control. Field capture was executed over a compressed on-site campaign to limit interference with terminal operations, with registration completed following demobilization.

Reusable As-Built Record for Future Engineering

The result was a registered point cloud providing an accurate as-built record of the terminal, giving the client a reusable basis for future engineering, equipment layout, and modification planning without repeat field measurement. The project demonstrates ZAP’s capability to deliver precise as-built documentation on live, operating industrial facilities.
