Gas processing and treating equipment with piping and vessels, representative of ZAP's NGL fractionation engineering work

Onshore Oil & Gas Midstream

NGL Fractionation Amine System Debottleneck

Multidiscipline detailed engineering to debottleneck the amine treating system across two existing NGL fractionation trains on the Gulf Coast.

Project Overview

ZAP was engaged by a major midstream pipeline operator to provide multidiscipline detailed engineering for an amine system debottleneck across two existing NGL fractionation trains on the Gulf Coast. The scope addressed operational constraints within the amine treating system, encompassing replacement of amine inlet coalescers, replacement of amine circulation pumps, and over-pressure protection upgrades to the amine flash tank.

Amine System Equipment Replacement & Hydraulic Analysis

ZAP performed hydraulic analysis to confirm equipment sizing and flow rates for the debottlenecked configuration, supporting replacement of amine inlet coalescers and circulation pumps, along with PSV sizing for flash tank overpressure protection. Mechanical deliverables included a 3D model, piping plans and isometrics, line and valve lists, tie-in lists, bill of materials, and equipment datasheets with vendor drawing review.

Brownfield Integration Across Civil, Electrical & Controls

Civil and structural engineering covered equipment foundation details, structural steel plans and elevations, and general arrangement drawings. Electrical deliverables included one-line diagrams, schematics, cable and conduit schedules, area classification plans, and grounding plans, with new pump motor integration verified against existing medium-voltage MCC spare capacity. Instrumentation scope utilized the existing site PLC for controls integration, covering the instrument index, I/O list, and junction box wiring. The project demonstrates ZAP’s capability to execute full-discipline brownfield debottlenecking engineering on operating midstream treating facilities, delivering construction-ready packages that integrate seamlessly with existing client systems.
